Question: How does Carbopol® 971P NF polymer differ from Carbopol® 974P NF polymer in controlling drug release?
Answer: Unlike linear hydrophilic polymers, drug release from matrix tablets with Carbopol® polymers is controlled more by the polymer structure than by the viscosity of the polymer.
Lower viscosity Carbopol® 971P NF polymer is generally more efficient in controlling drug release than highly crosslinked polymers such as Carbopol® 974P NF polymer.
