Lubrizol’s Products for Wind Energy
Increasing worldwide energy demand and a growing emphasis on cleaner energy have led to a stronger focus on alternate sources like wind power. This is a global phenomenon. While Europe has been the leader in installed wind turbine units, expectations are that Asia and the Americas will catch up quickly. Lubrizol is actively exploring possible applications for the use of our technology in turbines used to produce wind energy. Our current efforts are focused on three distinct product areas:
What’s Ahead?
While there have been a few wind turbines out in the field for more than 70 years, the technology has started gaining momentum only recently. The first and primary challenge for everyone in the industry is to understand this new market: its potential; its challenges and its requirements. Tens of thousands of units are being installed, and with each installation, the technology is being refined and new specifications are sure to follow.
With a growth rate of 20% per year, the field of wind energy offers new opportunities for advanced specialty chemical technologies. As an active member of the American Wind Energy Association, Lubrizol is working to keep ahead of opportunities in this potentially highly profitable market. We have products in place today, but are continually developing technologies that will meet our customers’ needs in the longer term.
